Mangatoetoe Hut Trip Report

This was a joint trip with South Wairarapa Tramping Club. After a brief stop at Ngawi for toilets and morning tea we headed around to the carpark at the start of the track. After setting off it wasn’t long before we had our first of many stream crossings, but it was a warm day so wet feet were not a problem. We were very grateful of the breeze and cloud cover on the way in as it would have been a very hot walk if the weather was the same as it was the day before.
The walk followed the stream with some sections of track on one side or other of the stream which generally provided faster travel than walking in the stream.
We had lunch at Mangatoetoe hut which was looking great after the recent “Love my huts” campaign and some work done by DOC.
Then it was time to head back the way we came. By the end of the trip the temperature was rising and we were enjoying splashing through the stream to cool off.
